Manufactured Home Program
The Manufactured (mobile) Home Program is to protect the health and safety of the owners of
manufactured homes in accordance with the Federal Manufactured Home Construction and Safety
Standards Act. Under this program, the Commission monitors and enforces construction
and safety standards of manufactured homes through plan review, inspections at factories and
dealer lots, and providing assistance with consumer complaints. When a manufacturer has
demonstrated that the home meets the requirements of the applicable Federal and State laws, the
manufacturer is allowed to place the Federal Manufactured Home label onto the home. The
manufactured home label is red and silver and is attached to the exterior rear end of each
transportable section of the home. For example, a single-wide home will have one (1) label and
double-wide homes will have two (2) labels.
Looking for a replacement label or other home information? Replacement of HUD labels is not
allowed. However, a verification letter can be provided. To do so, contact our office if the
home was built in Nebraska. If the home was not built in Nebraska, click on the links listed
below. In either case, please have available the home's manufacturer name, serial number,
manufacture date, and HUD label number.
If you have a complaint about the performance of your manufactured home and it has not been
resolved by either the dealer or manufacturer, you may contact this office for a complaint form.
The extent to which the Commission can help an owner resolve a complaint depends upon the
seriousness of the problem and which party (manufacturer, dealer, or installer) may have
caused the problem. Building codes do not address cosmetic issues and, therefore, the
Commission cannot resolve such problems. If a problem arises, the first contact made by the
consumer should be to the retailer/dealer. Most problems can be eliminated quickly. If the
retailer/dealer cannot help, the second contact should be the manufacturer. Manufacturers are
generally quick to respond to consumers. It is important to put complaints in writing and keep a
copy for your records. The letter should include the serial number of the home, the HUD label
number(s), the problems you are experiencing with the home, known factors that contributed to
the problems and also any secondary issues related to the problems.
